unleashing-women-power-eventWho says a woman can only be a homemaker? Who says a woman can’t brave challenges?

Adding yet another accolade to the multi-tasking skills of women, Vibrant Gujarat in association with FICCI flo organized a prelude seminar ‘Unleashing Women Power in Business’ on 5 January, 2013 in Ahmedabad. Open to all leaders of various industries, academicians, educational strategists, policy makers and students, this seminar earmarked the era of change with reference to empowering women.

The seminar was inaugurated by the Hon. Smt. Vasuben Trivedi, Minister of State for Education, Women & Child Development, Govt. of Gujarat, who with her honest and strong address infused the rightful spirit of the event amongst the audience. The seminar did indeed meet its objectives- of sharing information and experience between employers, policy makers and educators, of understanding the challenges and problems faced by women entrepreneurs and providing practical and useful guidance to the industry and students and of also providing an overview of the government policies, regulations and incentives to encourage greater women participation in business.

The highlight of the seminar was the inspiring role models of women entrepreneurship who shared their success stories and narrated their hardships and achievements as women entrepreneurs. These included Ms. Avi Sabavala, President (Vadodara Chamber of Commerce & Industry), Mrs. Manjula Shroff, MD (Calorx), Ms. Wricha Johari, Co-Founder (World Around You), Ms. Gagandeep Gambhir, IPS, SP (Ahmedabad Rural), Ms. Kanan Dhru, Founder & MD (Research Foundation for Governance in India) as well as Mrs. Sapna Patel, Fitness professional and Video Blogger.

There could be no better way to demonstrate and teach young female entrepreneurs the reality of the business world than this seminar; there could also be no better way to sensitize the male students about the concern of women entering and succeeding in business than this seminar.

Giving them a bright opportunity to learn and absorb the hard facts of the real world, this pre-event seminar was attended by the students of Unitedworld School of Business, Ahmedabad. Infusing a spirit of healthy competition as well as revealing the challenges and success stories of women entrepreneurs, this seminar stars as an epitome of igniting a productive year for the students. Apart from learning from their achievements and problems, students also received an opportunity to interact with the Hon. Smt. Vasuben Trivedi, Minister of State for Education, Women & Child Development, Govt. of Gujarat. They also met the other pioneers of women entrepreneurship and received enlightening practical teachings.

Here is what they wish to express:

The biggest learning I received from this seminar was that there was an age-old saying: “Behind every successful man, there is a woman”.

Now, we also have a saying, “Behind every successful woman, there is a man”!

– SanjitKumar Vaghel

This seminar was conducted to encourage women for becoming entrepreneurs and to make them aware about the government schemes and efforts taken for women entrepreneurship. Only 35% women in India are entrepreneurs in comparison to US which has 8.3million women entrepreneurs. So there is immense scope.

It was indeed a great experience and motivation for us as this seminar enriched us with knowledge as well as changed our perception towards working women. We got to know about how can one become a good manager as successful women leaders from various industries, academics and policy makers shared their thoughts, the challenges faced by them, the solutions and their journey up till now.

We learnt what Environmental manners is by Ms Wricha Johari (co-founder of WORLD AROUND YOU) as well as some good strategies discussed by Ms Avi Sabawala (President , Vadodara chamber of commerce)who talked about maintaining relationship with employees and clients. Learnt about various qualities a manager should posses which includes passion, risk taking (money, time, technology, social relationship), Diligence, self-disciplined, innovative, building reputation and strong determination. After attending this seminar I got to know the real meaning of the quote “When Women moves forward, Family moves and Nation moves “by Rabindranath Tagore.

The seminar was based mainly to see how women are growing in our present business environment and how they are overcoming or balancing their family and personal issues in the corporate sector. The seminar had many well known personalities who shared their thoughts. There was Mrs. Sajani Dua, Chairperson, FLO Ahmedabad Chapter, Mrs. Anju Sharma, IAS Secretary, WCD Department, CoG, Mr. Sukanti Ghosh, MD, APCO, Ms. Soma Maitra, Zonal Head for Sales Development, Tupperware India, Ms. Avi Sabavala, President, Vadodara Chamber of Commerce & Industry and many more. The present situation shows that women are more successful and stable whereas in the previous times, women were not able to step out of the house. But in the current times, she has become a helping hand to her family and husband.

This seminar was organized to inspire many women who still can’t put their foot down and to motivate them. It was a different experience because before this seminar, I had never attended any woman power related seminar and that’s why it infused an excitement in me. The seminar was organized and conducted in Hotel Radisson Blue. Overall it was an important experience for me that would help me in my upcoming endeavors.
