The city of Ahmedabad certainly provides one of the most conducive environments for aspiring entrepreneurs and risk-takers. The IIM-A conducted a 3 day long Start-Up Weekend: an event that blew minds out of the box, pushing aspirers out of their comfort zone and fostering creativity and risk-taking. It was an overwhelming ride to be in the competitive league held at IIM- Ahmedabad. For a relatively smaller eco-system like Ahmedabad, the response was great and we got an opportunity to meet professionals from different backgrounds.
Entering the gates of IIM- A was an awe striking moment for all of us. We had participants from 20 cities to attend the greatest start up weekend. The start up weekend was all about idea pitching where people had to vote for the pitched idea and around 14-15 teams were formed and people with varied ideas presented their ideas on the final day. The interesting feature was before the final judging we had a list of mentors who critically analysed our ideas and provided constructive feedback to us we had the head of Infibeam Mr Vishal Mehta, Mr Sanjay Chakaborty, Head of Triton Communications, founding creator of world economic forum Mr. Sunil Parekh, Joint CEO of CIIE IIM-A, Mr. Pranay Gupta and the rest. There was a highly regarded bench of judges one among them was head of MICA. There were indeed many creative ideas on the final day.
We as a team (Tanisha Thaker, Abhishek Varshney, Arindam Nag, Swati Bansal, Pratik Sharma, Priyanka Deesawala and Prayas Singh) won the BEST HARDWORKING TEAM award among the 22 participating teams and the idea we pitched was G2E station. It is a unique brick and mortar business. It was about the gaming station but the unique feature was the concept of having a gaming to eating station where people can not only have games but also can prefer munchies. To give wings to our ideas we also went to the extent of collecting facts and reviews from the youngsters as to how did this idea click to them. It unravelled a new path for some of us who actually wanted to start with business. Our team mates also calculated the rough estimates of the whole plan by going on with the basic 4 P’s of marketing. It was a moment of pride.
Eventually, the journey of three days was indeed a memory that we will cherish forever.
