Unitedworld School of Business Kolkata had the honours of having Mr. Harsh K Jha, the Managing Director of Tata Metaliks Limited, since September 2000 and the Chairman, Tata Metaliks Kubota Pipes Ltd., a JV promoted by Tata Metaliks, Kubota Corporation and Metal One as Guest Speaker for CEO Lecture Series. He shared his experiences from his vast career with students and spoke on Challenges of Business – Role of Leadership. He discussed several incidents from his work life when he had to make a choice between money and ethics. He very aptly told the students that may be money might seem to be a better choice but then in long run, it is ethics only that pays. His message to the students was that to become a leader one has to work hard but being unethical never pays. Everyone should be courageous to take decisions which might be risky but good for the organizations.

He also made a very interesting observation regarding the organizational Hierarchy Pyramid. He said that perhaps people at top management get paid maximum and they should hence take all the decisions. But Mr. Jha Strongly believes that it is the front line managers who face the real challenges of the market and hence the entire organization should really involve the front line people in all major decisions. He said that he believes in the Pyramid only in an upside down manner. His final words that you will eventually become a CEO someday, but then you heroism will be proved in the beginning of your career, motivated the students and they really echoed his thoughts that bravery lies in facing the market and winning the trust of the customers for the organization.
