WHAT A DAY!!!! I suppose such days will always be cherished in the history of UWSB Kolkata. It was 9th May 2013, just 3days in Term 2 and needless to say, we were in no mood to study, as usual. The day started just like a usual one with classes like Operation research System, Accounts and last but not the least Marketing.

After our 3rd class post lunch we suddenly saw faculties coming into our class. After a while Mahua Mam, also our Marketing faculty announced that when more than one faculty members enter a class together, this implicates that we will be evaluated by each one of them and our assignment for the class which we had to submit at that moment goes like this.  We have to prepare something about a BRAND which came into existence about 152 years ago, is still valid in today’s generation and will be in the up-coming generation too. And  the BRAND name is Yes of-course the great RABINDRANATH TAGORE– the brand who has given the land of Bengal its cultural identity with extraordinary, elegant, diversified literary works in all different fields one can think of; be it songs, short stories, poems, novels, drama and what not. As correctly said by one of our batch-mates, we are too small and insignificant to talk about his vastness. So after the announcement was made, we the management students or rather the management bees swarmed in for the purpose of organizing an entire event and our time limit was ONLY 15 mins.

As we got engrossed in preparing our individual as well as group events, we didn’t even realize how these 15 mins flew by.  Finally we were somewhat prepared with something that was going to get unfolded gradually and our guests for the evening were our respected Faculty members who were supposed  to evaluate us on our performances. Eventually it all began with the famous lines of Tagore-

‘Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls……………

Followed by our opening song

Aguner poroshmoni chowao praane
E jibon purno koro…….

The best part of the event was that each and every member of the class participated as a tribute to the father of Bengali Literature. Where some came up with recitation, some with songs like

Shokhi Bhabona Kahare bole
Shokhi Jatona Kahare kohe………..

While some managed to organize a dance item on ‘Esho Shymolo Shundoro………’ which was not only well choreographed but also well co-ordinated and some even chose to speak few words on Tagore.

After the students were done with their performances, we persuaded our faculty members to perform anything of their choice. Shayantani mam was so spontaneous and surprised us with a beautiful Tagore song with her melodious voice. Also need to mention that out Accounts faculty, Dipak sir also recited few lines from Tagore’s poem. Then our Dean Sir came up although after several rounds of persuasion. Well, he too recited few poems of Tagore and they were all in his mind or shall I say beyond that because when it comes to literature he just doesn’t need any preparation.

And yes that was not all. This was followed by a Quiz conducted by Shafi sir and those who could give the correct answer were given a prize (a dark chocolate tied to a key ring, we actually saw Mahua mam preparing the same) by our Dean Sir. Finally we all stood up and ended the event by singing our National Anthem.

And then come the surprise statement by Mahua mam, that throughout the event we were being evaluated, the marks were provided in those small cup plates where we were served with refreshments sponsored by our dear faculty members and we did realize that we were so excited and involved with the entire thing that EVALUATION just went out of our mind.

Well this was the first glimpse of Team work in its true sense and we thank our faculty to making us organize the event and be a part of it.
